Is leather repair worth the cost?

It often can be when the original item is well made, expensive to replace, comfortably broken in or personally important. The condition of the material and the scope of repair matter.

How do I know whether leather can be repaired?

Repairability depends on the condition of the leather, the location of the damage, the original construction and the stress the repaired area will face. Karen can discuss whether the item is a practical candidate for repair.

Do you repair riding boot zippers?

Yes. Karen replaces riding boot zippers. The exact repair depends on the condition of the zipper and surrounding boot.

Can a zipper slider be replaced without replacing the whole zipper?

Yes. Karen replaces zipper sliders when that is the correct repair. Whether the slider alone is enough depends on the actual zipper failure.

Do you repair Tucci riding boots?

Yes. Leatherwork by Karen is an Authorized Tucci Repair Center for the East Coast.

What is the difference between Tucci warranty and non-warranty repair?

Warranty repairs involve issues covered under the Tucci warranty. User-caused damage and other issues not covered by the warranty are handled as non-warranty repairs.

Can I mail boots or leather goods from outside Ohio?

Yes. Leatherwork by Karen offers out-of-state repair service. Contact Karen before shipping for instructions and to discuss the repair.

How long will my repair take?

Turnaround is discussed per repair before boots are sent in or work begins. Timing varies by repair and is discussed before boots are sent in or work begins.

Do riding boots need to be cleaned first?

Yes. Boots must be washed with warm soapy water and dried before drop-off or shipping. A $50 cleaning fee applies to boots that arrive dirty.

Do you repair leather jackets?

Yes. Jacket services include zipper replacement, snaps, alterations and selected repairs.

Do you repair purses and handbags?

Yes. Karen repairs selected zipper, patch and strap problems on purses and handbags.

Do you repair leather bags and luggage?

Yes. Services include zippers, slides, sewing and seam repair, golf bags, leather gym bags and leather luggage.

Do you sew patches on jackets?

Yes. Karen works on high school and college letterman jackets and MC club jacket patches. For MC club patches, Karen does not sew through the inside jacket lining.

Do you repair boat or RV cushions?

Yes. Cushion work can include patches, zippers and mending torn seams on selected boat and RV cushions.

Do you handle unusual repairs?

Yes. Karen specializes in unusual repair problems. Call and describe the item before making a trip or shipping it.

Do you resole riding boots?

Resoling is not currently listed as a Leatherwork by Karen service. Call Karen about any repair that is not specifically listed.

Are local drop-offs walk-in?

No. Leatherwork by Karen operates by appointment. Call to schedule a drop-off.
